About the Event
Join your club for a spectacular ride along the picturesque Roosevelt Lake.
We will depart from the Shell Station at 10989 E. Dynamite (corner of Alma School). Heading east we will meander through the small village of Rio Verde. We will continue on McDowell Mountain Road around to Fountain Hills. We will take the back way around Fountain Hills and turn right on N. Ft. McDowell Rd. From there, it is up the Beeline, SR 87, north up the mountain to AZ 188.
Gassed up: 8:30am
Ride Captain Briefing: 8:40am
Group Briefing: 8:50am
First Group Departs: 9am
We will pass the magnificent Four peaks on our right as we head north. On AZ 188, we will head south, and wind through the Tonto Basin. The Four Peaks will be on our right once again as we head south. The first and only bio stop will be on our right, the IGA/Ace Hardware/gas station. It is not perfect, but it is adequate! Continuing south on 188, the pristine Roosevelt Lake will soon come into view on our left side.We continue on Az 188 into Globe, and then head west on US 60 to Superior. We will pass through beautiful mountain passes on our way to Superior.
Lunch will be at Silver King Smokehouse & Saloon. We should be in for a real treat with great food!
For those interested in the winter desert blooming, Boyce Thompson Arboretum is Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical gardens are just 4 miles away, right on US 60 on our way home. The last admission there is at 4:00 and they close at 5:00. Admission is $24.95 per person or free for members of the arboretum. Arboretum visits are on your own.
The ride home, while not part of the sanctioned ride, will undoubtedly take you through the Gold Canyon and past the iconic Superstition Mountains. Time and weather permitting, there will be a group going back to the valley through Apache Junction, the Usery Pass, the lower Salt River Canyon, and back through Fountain Hills and Rio Verde. The temps top out at our lunch stop at 65 in February but we'll have lows along the way. A diversity of elevations will require a diversity of riding gear. Hope to see everyone on the 17th of February.
