BMMC Rider Training Newsletter

February 2009

1. Safety Meeting: Chris Christner spoke about the upcoming Track Day and BMMC’s participation. If you’ve never experienced a “day at the track” this would be a great opportunity in the only training environment that allows you to focus on your relationship with the motorcycle.

--The racetrack is the only place to safely learn the limits of your motorcycle and yourself. Riding a motorcycle is easy - riding a motorcycle correctly is much harder, and requires practice.

--The beginner and advanced MSF classes should be followed with some track time. This will allow you to implement the riding tips they provide in a more realistic setting.

--The most important thing you will learn at the track is how to properly use your brakes. Other things you will learn are to look far ahead, how to properly counter-steer, how to control your bike at higher speeds, and *how not to panic*.

2. Have you ever gone on any of BMMC’s organized rides? Did you enjoy yourself? Do you have any good ideas for rides that the club hasn’t tried? If you do, or would like to help out in the planning and execution of some rides, please contact any club Ride Captain, Director, or Officer with your ideas. Any help at all would be much appreciated. The more help the ride planning committee receives the better the ride calendar gets.

3. This month’s Safety Topic centers around the most import information that a rider should be aware of and use, the “how-to’s” of risk management. Riding a motorcycle is 90% mental so it behooves us all to be in the right frame of mind and thinking about the task of riding before we fire up our bikes. We hope you find it useful and interesting.

As always, Ride Smart and thanks for your time.

BMMC Director of Rider Training
