I. Attitude
Riding a motorcycle well is an art form… a combination of skill, grace and
smooth lines. The rider is alert, relaxed, in control, confident and assertive.
What this really means is that when you ride - you ride! Nothing else. It is
just you, the road and the other road users. You do not ride when you are angry,
upset, distracted, sick, cold, tired, drunk or high. Research shows that riding
cold, tired or stressed affects your riding as severely as being far over the
legal alcohol limit.
The new rider is 100% dedicated to the ride because of the novelty, but between
the second and third years of riding, statistics show that you are riding for a
fall. You forget that riding is an all or nothing activity and you start giving
it only a portion of your attention. It takes a close call or an accident to
remind you that driving your car and riding your motorcycle are two totally
different animals.
II. Safety Topic - Braking
This month’s Safety Topic answers a few questions about braking and the
ins-and-outs of proper braking techniques. It is presented in a Q&A format so
you can locate a particular item of interest easily.
Hope you find it interesting and useful.
From all of us to all of you, may your stockings be filled with chrome. Have a
very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of Holidays.
As always, ride safe and thanks for your time.
