Forty two BMMC members and twenty-six bikes met on Saturday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the Circle K Shell Station on Shea Blvd in Fountain Hills in anticipation of a great Sedona weekend.
After the ride briefing by Ride Host Bill Scardina, we broke into three groups which were led by Ride Captains Paula Scardina, Gene Adee and Dave Long. Our Sweeps were Bill Scardina, Jerry Perlstein, and Jim O'Hara. Thanks to all Ride Captains and Sweeps for a great job. We headed North beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Each group left at five minute intervals and began our journey North via Hwy 87 to Payson where each group made a quick fuel stop and then off to Pine via Hwy 260 for lunch at the Rimside Grill. Group one did fine under the direction of Paula Scardina all the way Payson where Bill took over to take the group to lunch.
It seems that Bill forgot to ask the location of the restaurant and ended up leading Group one on an impromptu tour through Pine which included traversing through a very old and run down neighborhood where the residents were surprised by the sound of ten motorcycles in their front yard. After a few more missed turns, Group one finally ended up at the Rimside Grill. After lunch, Paula led the group the rest of the way to Sedona as Group one took a vote to put Paula back in charge. Just kidding!! The next time Bill will ask specifically where the stop is located as the GPS is still looking for the Rimside Grill.
The Rimside Grill, with their wonderfully varied menu, was ready for the very hungry BMMC riders. We were met with an efficient staff and the food was great. We were offered a 10% discount from menu pricing for showing our BMMC membership card. If you have never been to the Rimside Grill, make it your next stop and ask for Steve & Tamara, owners.
We all safely arrived at the Poco Diablo Resort in Sedona at 3:00 p.m. where we had our own check-in table ready and waiting for us. Check-in went smoothly and in about 30 minutes, we were on our way to our rooms. In addition, the resort had a special area for parking marked off for us when we arrived.
It was now time to settle in for a quick rest before our BMMC sponsored "Welcome Party" at 5:30 p.m. which was held in a reserved room decorated in a Mexican theme. We enjoyed three hot entrees, cheese, fruit, chips and salsa and a veggie tray in addition to a well stocked bar for our thirsty riders. BMMC receptions are always fun and everyone was visiting with old friends and making new ones. Name tags were provided by our hostess, Paula Scardina. A great time was had by all. The party broke up about 9 p.m. and some members headed to their rooms while others headed off for a night cap and more good conversation.
Sunday morning provided a treat of cool and somewhat windy weather for our ride home. Most riders decided to enjoy the breakfast at the resort while others headed out early to take in the sights before heading home. We all said our good byes as we gathered up and headed out. The ride home was another great Arizona riding day and all made it home safe and sound.
Paula and I would like to say thanks to all for providing a safe, great, and wonderful experience for our Sedona overnight weekend.
Thanks. 'Till our next ride.
