November 2008 3rd Saturday Ride
Lunch at the Kofa Cafe
|
|
| On a sunny Saturday
morning on November 15, fifty-five BMMC members and guests
on forty-two motorcycles gathered at the parking lot of
the Arizona Fish and Game building for our Third Saturday
Ride. Ride host John Logsdon, led the group on a lunch
ride to the Kofa Cafe, located west of Salome, Arizona. After a pre-ride briefing, five groups with Ride Captains leading and sweeping, left the Arizona Game and Fish parking lot on the Carefree Highway in 10 minutes intervals. It was incredibly windy as riders gathered at our departure location but fate was on our side and the winds died down by the time the groups arrived in Wickenburg . Our riders traveled through Wickenburg and made a brief gas & bio stop at Congress. From Congress we followed the nearly deserted and desolate Highway 71 to U.S. 60, then west through Aguilla, Gladden, Wenden, Salome, Harcuvar, and Hope to our destination on the Vicksburg Road. Judd and his staff at the Kofa Cafe were prepared for the BMMC members and served up tasty breakfasts and lunches for the hungry riders. As usual, our group enjoyed participating in two of our other favorite group pastimes besides riding: visiting with other members and eating. Following the hearty meals, our riders were free to return home via several different routes. Some traveled straight back to the Valley, others made a short detour to ride up and down Yarnell Hill and others stopped in Wickenburg on the way home. There was one negative to this beautiful day of riding and friendship and that was learning member Sharon Harris took a spill from her bike on her way to our departure point. After a visit to the hospital, Sharon was home that later day in good spirits and resting fairly comfortably. She reports her bike survived better than she did. Sharon stated that she was glad for the protection of her heavy riding leathers, gloves, and helmet! Get well soon, Sharon! Your host, John Logsdon, would like to thank the following people: the Ride Captains for their willing assistance in leading and sweeping groups, Gene Adee for the suggested routing, Jim Moore for the pre-ride mapping and Ray Williams for his guidance, record keeping, and encouragement. |
