What do you do to cool off on a scorching Arizona Saturday?  Well eighty-one BMMC members had the right idea and took advantage of the Saturday, June 28th BBQ in the Pine’s Ride.

An enthusiastic group of thirty-seven motorcycles met at the departure point for the much anticipated 3rd Saturday ride to the cool country. Lead Ride Captain, Chuck Knight greeted the members, presented a pre-ride safety talk, and divided the members into four groups for the trip to Pine Canyon.

The four groups made a brief stop at Jake’s Corner Rest Area and then continued to Payson to fill up their tanks. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful ride up route #87 to the Pine Canyon area. As the members pulled into the parking lot of the beautiful community center at Pine Canyon, they were greeted by their event hosts who were busy cooking hamburgers and Bratwursts.

In addition to the thirty-seven motorcycles, a number of members traveled to the event in their vehicles. With the memory of the 112 degree return to the valley the previous weekend from the Santa Fe ride, they were not quite ready to tackle another scorching return to the valley and opted for the comfort of their air conditioned cars.

Ride hosts, Chris & Mary Christner, Dan & Carol Hancock, and Chuck & Allie Fodness soon had the delicious BBQ lunch prepared and everyone lined up to take advantage of the delicious hamburgers, bratwursts, potato salad, home made BBQ beans, chips, cookies and all the fixings. There were coolers iced down with cold drinks for the thirsty groups.

Following the delicious lunch the members enjoyed the beautiful community center, visiting, playing ping pong, pool, and just kicking back and soaking in the “cool mountain temperatures.”

All too soon it was time to think about the return home. A number of members had made arrangements for overnight stays in Flagstaff, Pine, Winslow and other mountain resort areas.

All of the participants would like to thank Chris & Mary, Dan & Carol, and Chuck & Allie for hosting this wonderful Saturday ride and lunch. We truly appreciate the use of the Pine Canyon Community Center. It was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the mountain area.

We would also like to thank Chuck Knight for leading the ride, and to all the Ride Captains who led and swept the four groups of bikes. Also, thanks to Ray & Sally Williams for preparing the delicious barbequed beans and assisting with the preparation.

If you traveled on your bike or traveled in your car, it was an extremely enjoyable and beautiful ride to Pine Canyon and the BBQ under the majestic pine trees was fantastic, not to mention the cool temperature!!! Thanks guys so very much. It is truly appreciated by all.
