On
Thursday, December 6th, fifty-five members, twenty-seven
motorcycles, and eleven cars gathered at the Arizona Fish & Game
parking lot, just west of I-17 on Carefree Highway in
anticipation of another fun Christmas ride.
Gene & Jeannie Adee were the hosts for the 2nd Annual Christmas
Ride. Unfortunately, Gene was unable to participate as he was
called away for business reasons at the last minute. Not a
problem however, Jeannie rallied to the cause!!!
Tom Clements graciously accepted the duties of leading the
riders, while Jeannie traveled ahead in the car securing the
lunch and arrival arrangements.
The riders were divided into three groups, and following Tom’s
pre-ride briefing, they headed out in five minute intervals for
Lake Havasu. The weather forecasters predicted heavy rain for
the ride, prompting some of the members to drive their cars
rather than their motorcycles. It turned out to be a delightful
day for riding, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their ride to
Lake Havasu.
Jeannie was waiting for us in Bouse, Arizona at the Coachman’s
Café for lunch. The members were all seated together in a
reserved room, and a delicious lunch was served. Following
lunch, the ride continued onto Lake Havasu, through Parker, and
a trip along the California side of the Colorado River, riding
across the Parker Dam, and on into Lake Havasu.
After checking into our hotels, and relaxing a bit, everyone met
at the Javalina Cantina for a club sponsored happy hour on their
heated patio over looking the river and the London Bridge.
Jeannie and her committee welcomed the members, passed out
holiday favors, and sold 50/50 raffle tickets. It was a very
lively cocktail party, complete with an abundant selection of
delicious appetizers. Following a very fun cocktail hour,
members broke into groups and had a wonderful Mexican dinner.
With the weather forecast calling for rain on Friday, most of
the members decided that an early departure was in order. The
final group led by Tom Clements departed at 8:45 for the return
ride to Phoenix. The weather was definitely threatening; however
everyone arrived home experiencing just some light sprinkles.
All of the participants would like to thank Gene & Jeannie Adee
for planning this superb holiday ride. A very special thanks to
Jeannie for her outstanding job of hosting. We would also like
to thank Tom Clements for stepping in at the last moment to lead
the riders. In addition, thanks to our Ride Captains, Chris
Christner, Bob Handelman, John Logsdon, and Jerry Perlstein for
leading and sweeping the groups.
A special thanks to Jeannie’s committee, Deb & Brian Anton,
Charlene Merta, and Kathy Wasson.
If you were one of the fortunate participants or were not able
to attend this year, you can all look forward to the 3rd Annual
Christmas Ride on Thursday, December 11th and 12th, 2008.
Thanks to Jeannie Adee for taking the fun pictures for our Ride
