What do you get when you have a
beautiful Arizona day, a fantastic motorcycle ride, a
delicious patio lunch, a chance to win cash and prizes,
and one-hundred thirty-five excited BMMC members?
THE BMMC 2010 POKER RUN
On Saturday, March 20, 2010 one-hundred thirty-five
members and guests gathered at Harold’s, for the much
anticipated 2010 Poker Run. As the members arrived they
were greeted by hosts, John Logsdon and Ray Williams and
were directed to purchase their poker hands and draw their
first card. There was definitely a buzz in the air as the
members discussed their chances of winning, and studied
the directions to the next stop.
After drawing their first card, the members gathered in
small groups and headed to Bartlett Lake to draw their 2nd
card. They were greeted at Bartlett Lake by Bob & Lori
Kollas and enjoyed throwing darts for their 2nd card. Bob
& Lori had to keep alert to avoid being hit by stray
darts, as some of the members had some wild throws.
Members also had an opportunity to win a $25 Cocomo Joe’s
Gift Card. Bob & Lori also thoughtfully provided
muffins for the hungry dart throwers!
The riders then mounted up and headed to Jackass Acres to
draw their 3rd card. Volunteers, Dan & Charlene Merta
welcomed the guests with cold water, and Sally William’s,
homemade chocolate-chip cookies, and Mike Wiz’s “Yum Yum
Cupcakes.”
Some of the members were enjoying the snacks so much they
almost forgot to draw their 3rd card.
After loading up on goodies, the riders headed for their
4th card draw at the Wild Horse West Saloon. With three
cards already drawn, the members were looking for that
special 4th card to enhance their hand. Volunteers, Todd &
Peggy Gerber were ready for them, and wished them “good
luck as they drew their 4th cards.”
Now it was time to head to Rock Springs Café to draw their
final 5th card. The members were greeted by John Logsdon
and Lynne Whitcomb on the spacious patio at the café and
were offered their last chance for a winning hand. There
was a lot of excitement and unfortunately, a lot of
disappointment as the members drew their final card that
would make or break them.
Win or lose the attendees spirits were high as they
enjoyed the delicious club sponsored lunch. As the members
relaxed in the warm afternoon sun and socialized with
their fellow members, the hands were being tallied to
determine the lucky winners.
Soon all of the attendees had arrived and turned in their
hands and the winners had been determined. Vickie then
thanked the hosts and volunteers and announced that this
year’s Poker Run set an attendance record for the club as
well as a “record poker cash pot”. She then announced the
lucky winners. High hand was awarded to Matt Alagna who
received $610. 2nd Highest hand went to Barbara Henderson,
who took home $366 and best low hand went to Leon Boyd,
who received $244.
In addition to the cash prizes, host, John Logsdon had
secured eleven donated prizes from local motorcycle
businesses that were awarded to the next eleven highest
hands in descending order.
As the members said their good-bys and headed for home,
they all agreed that it had been a beautiful day for
riding, the route was fun, and the lunch on the sunny
patio was delightful. Win or lose, everyone came away from
the Poker Run event as a winner. It was a spectacular day
filled with warm friendships, great riding, and good food.
It just doesn’t get any better than that.
