One hundred and seven BMMC members gathered at Harold’s on Saturday morning, March 28th, for the 2009 version of BMMC’s Annual Poker Run.  It was a beautiful Arizona morning and the weather was perfect for riding.  Event Hosts John & Nancy Logsdon,  and Committee Member Lynne Whitcomb, assisted the members with sign up and drawing their first card for their poker hand.  Co-Host, Ray Williams was busy snapping photos of the members as they prepared to depart for the second stop.  Ray then followed the members to the remaining stops taking photos along the way.

The members then gathered into small groups and headed out to the 2nd Stop at Bartlett Lake for their second card.  Committee members Paul and Cindy Czarnik, offered the members an opportunity to test their skill at darts as they tried to hit a card to improve their hands. In addition, members could try their luck at winning a $25 gift card from Cocomo Joe’s.

The members then enjoyed a beautiful ride to the 3rd stop at The Rio Verde Community Church. Committee members Mike and Carol Lipsky, and representatives from the Fore Peaks Realty welcomed the members. In addition to drawing their 3rd card, they enjoyed Sally William’s famous homemade chocolate chip cookies and cold drinks. As an added bonus, the Fore Peaks Realty provided chips, oranges and fruit juices to snack on plus offering a free drawing to win a free round of golf for four at the Rio Verde Country Club. Special thanks to BMMC member, Kevin Brown, who is the pastor of the Rio Verde Community Church, for allowing us to use the facility and arranging for the extra hospitality.

After filling up on the goodies, the members headed out for the fourth stop, at the Pinnacle Presbyterian Church. Committee members Jim and Kathy Wasson, assisted the members with their 4th card draw and offered the members a chance to win a replacement card draw. Jim & Kathy also had a large cooler of ice cold bottles of water for our thirsty riders.

Everyone then headed for Harold’s for his or her 5th and final card, with hopes of having a winning hand. After drawing their final card and turning in their hands for scoring, the members gathered at reserved seating at Harold’s and enjoyed a delicious club sponsored lunch as their hands were being tallied.

The festive members enjoyed socializing with fellow members as they waited in anticipation for the announcement of the winning hands. Vickie then welcomed the members and thanked the hosts and committee members. She then explained the scoring of the hands and the payout amounts for the winning hands. The total poker pot for the day was a whopping $1,920. Vickie explained that the pot would be split 50/50 with the Club and the winners. The BMMC Treasury was enriched by $960 and the winners would split the remaining $960.

Highest hand winner with an Ace high straight went to Barbara Lynch. Barbara’s winnings were 50% of the winner’s pot, which was $480.

Jim Whiting with three Aces won next highest hand. Jim received $288, 30% of the winner’s pot.

Low hand was won by Diane Powell, who received $192, 20 % of the winner’s pot.

Vickie then announced that there were an additional fourteen prizes that would be given away to the next highest hands in descending order. Host, John Logsdon had solicited the motorcycle stores in the area and had secured the fourteen prizes. A special thanks to the following businesses for their very generous contributions.

Hacienda Harley Davidson
Buddy Stubbs Harley Davidson
North Valley Honda Kawasaki
Cycle Gear
Cocomo Joe’s

Vickie then read off the names of the winners and they came forward to receive their prizes from John & Nancy Logsdon.

It was a beautiful day for riding and all of the members thoroughly enjoyed the fun route and the anticipation of going home a big winner. Even if the members were not lucky and did not draw a winning hand, they were all winners as they enjoyed the camaraderie of the club, the delicious lunch, and the opportunity to see their fellow members take home the cash and great prizes.

Everyone would like to sincerely thank the hosts, John & Nancy Logsdon, and Ray & Sally Williams for planning and hosting this wonderful event. Thank you guys, it was great!

We would also like to thank the hard working committee members for manning the card stops. Lynne Whitcomb, Paul and Cindy Czarnik, Mike & Carol Lipsky, and Jim & Kathy Wasson. Thanks you guys, you are truly appreciated.

Also, thanks to Ray Williams for following the group and taking photos during the event plus the additional great photos of Jeannie Adee and Roddy Levy.
