On January 17th the weather cooperated nicely giving us sunny sky’s and moderate temperatures with no rain in sight.  Our third Saturday ride in January was attended by 24 Bikes and 34 member/guests.  We also had a small group of bikes that only went part of the way to our first gas stop.

We met at the Circle K in Fountain Hills, and divided into 3 Groups.

The trip was hosted by Gene Adee and Bob Handelman.
Ride Captains leads and sweeps were:

Group 1 Gene Adee / Ed Graham
Group 2 Glenn Murray / Bill Harris
Group 3 Bob Handelman / Chuck Knight
Super Sweep - Ron Small

Our 1st Stop was at the Chevron Station in Florence with a second stop located at the Circle K in Tucson on the right just after going thru the underpass of Hwy 10.  We then continued on through Saguaro National Park to Old Tucson. Traffic was light until we entered Hwy 77 on Oracle Road. Traffic was still heavy until we got past our 2nd Gas Stop. The section of road thru Saguaro National Park was an extremely scenic route that was enjoyed by all.

Upon our arrival at Old Tucson Studios, and turning into the parking lot, we found plenty of secure parking for our bikes which was very close to the actually entrance to the Park.

We had our own entrance to the park and admission was quick and easy.  Each member paid a nominal $5 entrance fee with BMMC paying the difference. Thanks Ron & Vickie, and of course the board.

There were many restaurant choices, enough to satisfy the heartiest of diners, and we tested them all.

At 1:30 Gene and Bob lead a group of bikes back to Phoenix. The route was Hwy 10 to Coolidge/Florence to hwy 60 to the 101. The only problem with the entire day was that the entrance ramp to the 101 at hwy 60 was closed, which created an enormous traffic jam.
However, if you think about it, if the worse occurrence is a traffic jam, then that’s a pretty good ending to a great day.

In summary, it was just another typical day of riding on the Arizona back roads, with your friends from BMMC

A big "Thank You" to Bob Hickerson, Ron Small and Roddy Levi for forwarding their photographs for the slide show.
