3rd Saturday Ride For December 2009

Lunch at Tortilla Flat

Sorry, there is no slideshow for this ride (no photos were taken)

On a beautiful, slightly chilly and sunny 19th of December your band of brothers( and sisters ) met at the Chevron station at highway 87 and Fort McDowell road for the 3rd Saturday Ride for December to Tortilla Flat for lunch. Spirits were high and the slightly later than customary meet-up time allowed for some warmer departure temps.

45 bikes and 64 riders were divided into four groups led by ride captains Gene Adee with Dave Simkins sweep, Tom Clements with Bob Handelman , Don Walton with John Logsdon and your humble host Chuck Knight with Ed Graham.

Initial departure time of 10:15 and @ 10 minute intervals for the following teams provided a very smooth and entertaining ride with no bunching-up when we got to the fun stuff. The management at the newly remodeled restaurant reserved the " upstairs " ( O.K. 2 steps...) for our exclusive use. The food was good and the service timely. There were no reported mechanical, biological or law enforcement problems, so a fine time was had by all.

A few of the members extended their itinerary to include a ride to Roosevelt dam and Four Peaks. The outcome of that side trip is unknown to us at this time. On a personal note, I want to thank the extraordinary group of senior ride captains who made this ride as safe and orderly as it was.
