On Saturday morning, October
17th, fifty-nine excited members on forty-three
motorcycles joined ride hosts, Dan Wood, and TJ & Pam
Jackson for the Copper Mine Loop Ride. Following Dan’s
excellent pre-ride briefing, the members joined one of the
four pre-assigned riding groups in preparation for
departure.
It was a beautiful Arizona morning as riders enjoyed the
route up Bee Line Highway by Saguaro Lake and onto
Superior. At Superior, ride hosts, TJ & Pam Jackson had
arranged to have their Eastside Performance trailer parked
at the rest stop packed with ice cold water, and an
assortment of molasses cookies, and chocolate brownies.
Following a relaxing break, the riders then continued
toward Winkelman enjoying the motorcycle friendly roads
with mountain grades and curves. They passed by the Ray
Copper Mines and through the mining towns of Kearney and
Hayden.
The next stop was in Winkelman to take a break and top off
the gas tanks. After the break the riders turned onto
route # 77 that follows the Gila River through a scenic
canyon for several miles. They then passed over Pinal Pass
and descended into Globe and onto Guayo's on the Trail for
lunch.
Dan Wood had arranged with the staff at Guayo's to block
off the paved parking lot for our motorcycles and had
reserved the two main dining rooms for our group. It was a
lively noisy crowd that enjoyed a delicious Mexican lunch
as they shared their thoughts about the beautiful desert
ride that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Following lunch, the members broke into small groups for
the open return ride home. Some riders chose to ride by
Roosevelt Lake and then take Bee Line Highway back to
Phoenix, while others traveled on # 60 back through
Superior.
All of the participants would like to thank ride hosts,
Dan Wood, and TJ & Pam Jackson for planning and leading
this great Saturday day ride. A special thanks to TJ & Pam
for donating the use of their trailer for our rest stop
break. Thank you guys, it was a beautiful ride, and a
wonderful event.
We would also like to thank our dedicated team of Ride
Captains for leading and sweeping our riding groups.
And special thanks for the great photos taken by Leslie
Jensen, Mike Wiz, Alan Wagener, Sharon Harris and Cindie
Bierbaum.
