BBQ In The Pines 2009
3rd Saturday Ride For September

|
| BMMC members were
treated to below normal summer temperatures for the
Saturday, June 20th BBQ in The Pines Ride. Seventy-five
riders on fifty-one motorcycles gathered at the Fountain
Hills Target parking lot, anticipating a cool scenic ride
to the cool country for a delicious BBQ lunch. Ride Segment Hosts, Jim & Jacqui O’Hara and Ron & Vickie Small divided the members into four riding groups and departed in ten minute intervals for the scenic ride to Pine Canyon. As the members departed for the ride, the event hosts, Chris & Mary Christner, Dan & Carol Hancock and Ray & Sally Williams were busy up in Pine Canyon preparing for the arrival of the hungry members. The riders traveled to Payson where they enjoyed a brief bio-fuel stop and then proceeded up Route #87 to the Pine Canyon area. Everyone was dressed for the warm Phoenix area temperatures and were surprised when the weather turned very cool. It was a nice break from the ‘hot weather’; however, most riders were wishing that they had another layer of clothing. Webmaster, Ray Williams was waiting at the entrance to snap action photos of the members as they turned into the Community Center area. Dan Hancock directed the members to ample parking space for their bikes and then the hosts invited them into the beautiful Pine Canyon Community Center for a hardy BBQ lunch. The hosts had prepared hamburgers, Bratwursts, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, and all the fixings. To top it off, members were treated to delicious fresh apple pie for dessert. Following lunch, the members kicked back and enjoyed the beautiful Community Center. Some joined in on heated ping pong matches; others played pool, while others enjoyed a very competitive game of table shuffle board. Some of the less energetic members lounged on the deck, and soaked up the awesome mountain scenery and cool temperatures. One member became so relaxed that he fell soundly asleep in one of the large over stuffed chairs. Hmm? Soon it was time to start thinking about the return ride home. Some members were traveling to over-night destinations in the Pine, Strawberry and Payson areas. Other members headed home. All of the attendees would like to sincerely thank Chris & Mary, Dan & Carol, and Ray & Sally for hosting this wonderful Saturday ride and lunch. The hosts made it look easy feeding seventy-five hungry riders; however, we know that it takes a lot of preparation and hard work to pull it all together. Mary Christner was busy on the grill cooking up the hamburgers, while Chris, Dan, Carol, Ray and Sally were serving up the delightful BBQ lunch. As always, thanks to our dedicated Ride Captains for leading and sweeping our groups. Also, a special thanks to Ray Williams and Kim Caine for snapping the great photos for our slideshow. Thanks to everyone for this wonderful day of riding and eating. The pace was slow and easy, the route and scenery were fantastic, the lunch was delicious, and the Pine Canyon weather was superb. It doesn’t get much better than this!! |
