Wednesday, June 18th through Sunday, June 22nd was the dates for the Santa Fe Chili Run. Forty-nine bikes and seventy-three BMMC members participated in this four nights, five day extravaganza. The Chili Run was a hub and spoke event with participants traveling to Santa Fe on their own. There was a group sanctioned ride that departed on Tuesday, with an overnight stay in Springerville. Ride hosts, Jim & Jacqui O’Hara, Gene & Jeannie Adee and Dan Wood & Ruthie Salant greeted the member’s poolside at the beautiful Hilton Hotel on Wednesday evening. Each member received a souvenir Red Hot Chili Hat, and drink tickets for the club sponsored refreshments. Jacqui O’Hara had arranged for a delicious assortment of heavy chili hot appetizers for the hungry members. Everyone filled their plates and enjoyed the delightful Mexican buffet. Jacqui had also arranged for an authentic Mariachi Band to entertain the members during the cocktail reception. The lively Mexican music, delicious food and cold drinks made for a very festive first night reception. As you know a BMMC cocktail party is not complete without a fun 50/50 raffle. The members were given the opportunity to purchase tickets and take a chance on winning some extra cash. Early Thursday morning, the members gathered in the hotel parking lot on a beautiful New Mexico morning. The members then divided into groups and selected one of the many beautiful ride routes to explore. The most popular ride was the Taos scenic loop to Red River, Eagle Nest, and Angel Fire. Some groups traveled to Taos for shopping and lunch, while others walked to the plaza to enjoy a day of shopping and sight seeing. It was an absolutely beautiful day and everyone had a wonderful time. Thursday evening was open with no planned club functions. Members again gathered in pre-arranged groups and enjoyed the vast variety of Santa Fe dining opportunities. A large number of members landed at the Pink Adobe Restaurant and enjoyed a delicious meal in the private dining room that was arranged by Brian & Deb Anton. A large crowd topped off the evening two-stepping to a local western band. Friday morning the members were moving at a slower pace, probably due to the previous evening’s parties. Groups again were formed up and the rider’s took off in all different directions to enjoy the many beautiful selected routes. The afternoon did produce a thunderstorm that caught some of the riders on their return to Santa Fe. Friday evening was a repeat of the previous night with members breaking into small groups and selecting one of the delightful Santa Fe restaurants for their dining pleasure. Saturday morning the group rode to the local BMW Dealership for coffee, bagels, fruit and juice. The dealership is one- half cars, and one-half motorcycles. Ruthie Salant had arranged for the dealership reception and everyone enjoyed looking at the new bikes and new cars. Following a good time at the dealership, the group rode to Madrid, New Mexico, the location for the movie “Wild Hogs.” The members walked the street and checked out the shops and galleries. After seeing the sites of Madrid members scattered out for lunch and the return ride to the hotel. The balance of the afternoon was spent cleaning bikes, shopping, and just kicking back. That evening everyone met at the hotel Atrium for a Farewell Cocktail Party. Again, Jacqui had arranged for an assortment of delicious appetizers that was more than enough to satisfy most everyone’s appetite. Drink tickets once again were provided and the 50/50 raffle was offered for the member’s pleasure. It was a very lively fun party with friends saying goodbye and departing to their rooms to pack for the following day’s return ride back to Arizona. All of the Hot Chili Run participants would like to thank Ride Hosts, Jim & Jacqui O’Hara, Gene & Jeannie Adee, Dan Wood & Ruthie Salant for planning and hosting this fabulous Hub & Spoke adventure. Everything was perfectly planned, the hotel accommodations were wonderful and the events extremely enjoyable. Thanks you guys! We would also like to thank Gene Adee for leading the sanctioned ride and to Ben Hodder for sweeping the group. A special thanks to everyone that provided photos of the fun event to Ray Williams for our ride slideshow. |
