On
Thursday, December 11, 2008, forty-three BMMC members lead
by Ride Hosts Gene & Jeannie Adee headed toward Lake
Havasu in search of Christmas Lights and Margaritas. The
sky was blue, the temperature was penguin-like, and the
heated clothing was plugged in… perfect for riding ;-).
The “advance team” rode on ahead to advise us of anything
that might create problems for the group (e.g. road
restrictions, closed gas stations, restaurant/ hotel
coordination, etc.) as the ride progressed. It worked
quite well as the ride went off without a hitch (OK, so
the Wickenburg gas station was closed… picky, picky).
The members enjoyed lunch in Parker at The Feast inside
the Blue Water Casino, which happily offered a senior
discount without even asking (what’s up with that?). The
temperature had now warmed into the mid 60’s as belts were
loosened and cooler weather clothing was shed. From the
restaurant the ride proceeded along the California side of
the Colorado River, across the Parker Dam and into Lake
Havasu City.
BMMC “took over” the Heat Hotel (formerly the Agave Inn)
and several more rooms across the channel at the London
Bridge Resort. The remodeled rooms at the Heat offered
spectacular views and comfort extraordinaire (including
suites with disco lighting, Jacuzzis that filled from the
ceiling, and showers for eight…see, I wasn’t fibbing!).
Members had a couple of hours to relax and enjoy the area
before the club- sponsored cocktail party, on the patio of
the Javelina Cantina overlooking the London Bridge and the
beautiful Christmas Lights. A raffle was held with three
cash prizes as well as three prizes generously donated by
the Javelina Cantina. The hot hors d’oeuvres and cold Dos
XXs were delicious. And, there was no extra charge for the
full moon. For dinner, some found other restaurants close
by and some stayed and ate at the Cantina. The waddle back
to the rooms was fun to watch.
Friday morning most returned home on their own and some
rode with John and Jim to the Kofa Cafe for lunch on their
way back east. All arrived home safe and sound.
We would sincerely like to thank our advance team (Bob
Tomlin, Alan Solinger, and Jim Moore), the Ride Captains
(Bart Iden, Jim Whiting, John Logsdon, Michelle Boomer and
Jim Boomer), our party hostesses (Deb Anton, Kathy Wasson,
Jan House, and Cindy Czarnik), for all their help and
support. And to all of you who attended, thanks for making
the ride possible. We had a ball. Next year, #4, same
time, same station, stay tuned.
A big "Thank
You" to Paul Czarnik, Brian Anton, Bob Hickerson & Gene
Adee for forwarding their photographs for the slide show. |
