About Lynn & Gerry Snodgres

And why the lobster boil is named after them

(for our newer members)

Lynn & Gerry were BMMC members for many years prior to our joining the club in 2001 and they were among the first members we met.  Gerry was the unofficial club greeter in those days and she had this knack of seeking out new members and making them immediately feel welcome and part of the club. We experienced her warmth and caring first hand and we are not the only ones who also tell this story.

Gerry was an organizer who loved people, food and hosting parties.  Gerry organized the first 3 Progressive Dinners for the club and was famous for organizing the unofficial BMMC "Buff & Shine" event each year.  Ask some of the older members what this event was all about!  Lynn was about the most laid back gentle soul you could ever meet and had this quiet sense of humor that would just sneak up on you.  Lynn was a nationally recognized expert of and restorer of antique motorcycles.  Lynn was on the BMMC Board of Directors but was best known for his ability to fix anything and had a workshop that was the envy of all.  We loved them both.

We had been hosting a lobster boil for our church group for about 5 or 6 years and during the planning for the 2005 year, we proposed to host this event for the club.  BMMC enthusiastically endorsed the idea and put it on the club calendar for the Spring of 2005.  Lynn and Gerry wanted to be involved and were our very first committee members and insisted that we hold the event at their large beautiful home.   I don't recall exactly how many BMMC members were with us for that first lobster boil at Lynn and Gerry's, but it was in excess of 100 who enjoyed that magical spring Arizona evening with the great food, friends and dancing.

We lost Lynn and Gerry on Father's Day that year to a tragic motorcycle accident.  You may have noticed their white roadside memorial on the right hand side of the road on Route 89 North of Peeples Valley on the way to Prescott.  There were few members who gave more of their time and energy and love to BMMC than Lynn & Gerry. The Board of Directors chose to remember them and honor their contributions to BMMC by creating the annual "Lynn & Gerry Snodgress Member of The Year" award to be awarded to the member(s) who contributed 'above and beyond' to BMMC during the past year.  And since the first BMMC lobster boil was held at their home and because Lynn and Gerry symbolized good food, fun and friendship, the annual lobster boil is appropriately named after them.

At the lobster boil, among the decadent dessert offerings, you will find a plain white frosted sheet cake that is made from scratch by one of our committee members.  This is Gerry's "Texas Almond Sheet Cake", made from her original recipe and was served at the very first BMMC lobster boil.  You will also find two home made Rum Cakes made by Shelly Haight, owner of Black Mountain Cafe in Carefree.  Shelly was very close to Lynn & Gerry and has made and donated these wonderful Rum Cakes since the very first lobster boil!

At the lobster boil, Sally will give this toast:

"To the food before us, to the friends beside us, to the

love between us and to those who have gone before us"
